The district had recently installed multiple Novell OES Clusters connected to a SAN. Eaton Rapids was initially using Symantec's Backup Exec but moved to Syncsort's Backup Express in order to backup the Linux clusters. Over the course of 16 months, the District had attempted to stabilize its backup of Novell Open Enterprise Server Clusters, SUSE Linux Enterprise Servers running XEN with multiple guest servers and Microsoft Windows Servers connected to a Storage-Area-Network (SAN) without sustained success.

The city of Schwäbisch Hall uses more than 40 Ingres databases for its council information system and the management of its historical collection. SEP AG built a mission-critical application to automatically back up and copy the information stored in these databases while offering additional features such as checkpoint backup and disaster recovery. SEP AG used SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 from Novell, Ingres Database, and the backup server SEP sesam 3.6 to create a complete, easy-to-install solution.
